April27 2015 Transfer miracle "Im staying!"

Hello family,
This week we had an insane thing happen! On  Wednesday after dinner we went tracting and the 3rd door that we knocked on, the people let us right in and we started to talk to them about the gospel and about the restoration. They expressed that they like to do things as a family, and we talked about how we believe that family is important. They got really interested and they said that they were, "hungry for Jesus Christ." The mom asked us randomly about church and asked what we would wear to church. So we explained and as the conversation went on they said that their kids were at a church mutual activity. When they said that, and we asked what church they were going to for the activity and they said it was a church in Clinton. So we kept talking and we narrowed it down and found out that their kids were going to our LDS church in Clinton. WHAT ARE THE ODDS OF THAT!!! Once we found that out, we stopped the whole conversation and said, "okay, think about what we just talked about. What are the odds of us knocking on your door and your kids happening to at the mutual activity at the church? This family is super!

The other thing that happened this week was transfers. We usually get the call on Sunday night and its usually around dinner. Elder Rowley was getting anxious about the call, I wasn't too worried about it because I've been transferred every transfer. But this call didnt come during dinner, it came right before we were going to bed. I am staying in Clinton though and Elder Rowley is staying as well! This morning though, We got a call from the zone leaders and they said that there was an adjustment of The transfer. The adjustment was that Elder Rowley is going to be the district leader for our district. We have us and then two sets of sisters in the district. That means that out of my whole mission I have had only 3 out of the 9 companions that were not district leaders.

This week was really good. We have so much stuff going! I hope your week was good. I love hearing
from you.

Pretty good week

Hello family

This week was a pretty good week. On Wednesday we had a lesson with E. who is on date for baptism. We taught the gospel of jesus christ lesson and we brought a member with us that recently came off of her mission about a year ago. the lesson went really well. He said that he really wants to come to church now.

On Thursday we went tracting the whole night after dinner and we Tracted into a southern baptist preacher!!!! we simply talked with him and he said in his own words, "you can for sure come back next week and we will talk." when we left we talked about what he meant. We hope that it will not be bashing session because none of us really know the bible to well like a preacher.. I have been trying to finish the new testament since thanksgiving and I'm only in 2 corinthians. We asked for some help from a previous mission president/stake president in Seeley lake, on what to do if it becomes a contentious bible discussion. He helped us understand what to do, becuse it's not our purpose to argue doctrine, but to help people come closer to Christ and to a be able to have that personal relationship, and have better understanding of his importance and share our knowledge of the restored gospel.

We had a lesson with E and his brother J. on Saturday as well. but the whole time we were answering questions that were super deep doctrine! It was an intense lesson and when we left my mind was
fried. The rest of the night I was still trying to process what was taught and everything that was explained in that lesson. that was probably the deepest doctrinal lesson that I have been in.

Yesterday, Sunday, we both had the opportunity to speak in church. We both talked about unity and I focused on unity between the members and the missionaries in missionary work. I focused my talk on the general conference address be elder Chi hong Wong of the 70 which was called, "rescue in unity" it was a good talk. I also played the intermediate hymn. but I played a solo. played the "I  am a child of god" arrangement and everybody loved it.  Besides all of that we were very excited that E came to church by himself!!! He really liked church and EVERYONE in the ward said hello to him and welcomed him.

Today during my studies I finished the book of mormon for the second time on my mission. Tomorrow I will be starting my third time reading it. Here is a poem that I wrote literally on the spot right now.

The book of mormon is true, and it is also blue.
The church is true too, through and through
and if you dont believe it, then go and read it.
Pray To find out if it is true
peace out!

I know that this is probably the worst poem that you have ever read because you cant rhyme the same words together.

But other than that, this week was very busy. There was a lot of stuff to write about but I chose the things that were the highlights of the week. Have a good week. I ll send some pictures that I took this week. and you'll have to upload them to photo bucket if you want. Try and get all of the pictures off
of there and see if you can make a slideshow or something you can.

Dogs VS missionarys

Hello family,

This week was a really eventful week, a lot of things happened. First, after our weekly planning on Thursday we had dinner and then went out tracting for the rest of the night. We tracted up this one street and the first house that we went to had two dogs that were barking at us like they wanted to attack us so I planned out an escape route just in case the dogs were going to attack. I stood my ground because we were going to knock on the door. the dogs came closer and closer and I just stretched out my arm wanting them to come to me. One of the dogs came right up to me a little cautious but when I started to pet it, it was like we were best friends. Then the other dog that was there, saw that I was nice so he decided to come over as well. The dogs were friends to us after that. The only sad thing was that we knocked on the door and nobody answered.

Tracting the rest of that evening was not the greatest because we didn't find anybody else to teach. But on the way back to the truck we were walking past the first house where we made friends with the two dogs, and there was a third dog (that was a pug). It was a yappy annoying dog. And when it came up to us and it was trying to attack our ankles and it got pretty close a few times but I moved my foot out of the way and it would back off and then try again. It did this for a good 5 minutes as we were walking. I  didn't want it to ruin my pants so I turned around to face it and I was walking backwards for a few feet and it backed away. When I noticed that it was going to stay there and not follow us any farther, I decided to turn around and just keep walking. But as I was turning around the dog came up and as my foot swung around, my foot uppercutted the dog in the face. It wasnt very hard though and I didnt mean to hit it, it just so happens that my foot and the dogs face met at the right time. The  only interesting thing was that the pug came back even more fearce but he was a little more cautious this time. He ended up going away and we laughed about how I accidentally hit the dog (which it was an accident) but from elder Rowleys  perspective it seemed like I did it on purpose because it was a really nice hit.

The  last thing that happened this week was when we were up in Seeley Lake for the weekend. On Saturday, the branch put on a family history fair. The past few times that they have done it, they have done it at the church and nobody would show up for it. So they decided this year that they were going to do it at the community center. All the members there thought  that nobody was going to show up like times before. But  when we opened the doors, within minutes there were about 5 people there on the computer finding their ancestors. One lady that I was helping out on the computer has been looking for her great grandfather for a few years. She has looked all over ancestry.com and other sites. but as soon as she even typed just the name in on familysearch.org. It came up within the top 5 results! and it had her great great grandfathers name! Every one that came in, found at least one person. It was a great activity!
there was a member at the family history fair that had a table where he was doing calligraphy. He was doing calligraphy of the last names of the members at the fair. Elder Rowley asked if he would do one for him, and he did. I have always been curious in calligraphy, So when it was not very busy I was over there learning how to do calligraphy. At the end of the fair when we were all packing up. He had some extra supplies of ink, paper, pens, and tips and he wanted to give them to me, because he admires people that love calligraphy because it is a dying art. I told him that he didnt have to give it to me, but he did anyway. he also said that he self-taught himself calligraphy while on his mission. So you might be getting a few letters that are calligraphy from now on. haha!

Well that was my week. There has been a lot of things happening here in Clinton, two weeks ago we had nobody to teach. but now we have 5 people on date for baptism.

Year mark and conference

Hello Family,

This week right after preparation day was over, I went on exchanges with Elder Hatton in Missoula until Wednesday. On Tuesday however, we were driving around trying to figure out where we were going to tract because we had nothing else in our plans to do. But while we were driving around, Elder Hatton remembered that there was a less active lady in the area that they have been trying to contact for a few weeks now. We decided to stop by and try to get in. On the way there it started to rain pretty hard. When we knocked on her door she answered and saw that it was raining so she let us in. We shared with her the new Easter video and she really liked it. The conversation had many different topics and we taught her a lot of things and she really felt the spirit because she was crying the whole lesson, she was touched. One thing that she told us was that she had made cupcakes earlier that day and for some reason she set 4 cupcakes on a plate and covered it up. She didn't know why she did that, but she decided that they were probably for us. So she gave them to us. It was a very powerful lesson. It's nice to have those lessons that you just cant stop talking about for a while.

Also this past week, I hit my year mark as a missionary. My year mark was on the second. All we did for my year mark, (since it landed on a Thursday) was weekly planning for the coming week. Then we headed out to Drummond to have dinner with some members out there. For dinner we went to a small restaurant called Parkers. This restaurant is famous for having over 135 different kinds of hamburgers on the menu that you could eat. None of those hamburgers looked appetizing to me. So I told the waitress that I just wanted a double bacon cheeseburger and her reply was, "are you kidding me! out of 135 different burgers to choose from, you want a plain old simple double bacon cheeseburger?!?!?!" She wasn't super mad because she was just joking about it. In my mind I thought, "your focusing on how good all of your 135 different burgers are but lets see how good you can make a classic." and being honest, that was a really good burger! There was also a challenge that Parkers had where you had to eat a two pound cheeseburger, one pound of fries, and a large milkshake in 20 minutes! That is a lot of food! The waitress said that there have been a few missionaries in the past that have beat it and some of their pictures are on the wall. That really tempted me to take that challenge but I don't think that I could do it right now. maybe someday I will try it.

Conference was amazing! there was so many great speakers. I took a lot of good notes and I hope that you did too.
Well that was my week. Hope yours was good.

Hump day week one year in the field!

Clinton has been a little tough McKade misses Forths and the family E he was teaching there.

This week has been a lot better. This week we had a zone conference that lasted from 9 until 4, the stake relief society made us lunch. It was a very long day for everyone. On Friday since we had very limited miles left for the month. We pulled out the bikes and rode them all over. We were so tired! We rode 6 miles one way to our dinner and then rode back. On the way back we stopped at the T. family's and asked if we could have them come to a lesson with us sometime, she then took some pictures of us on our bikes and then we went on our way. When we got back to the apartment we took a small nap because we were so tired. Then we got on our bikes again and rode down another 6 miles and tried to go and contact some people. While we were walking around trying to show people the new "he lives" initiative video for Easter we had no success, but on the way walking back to our bikes we saw a lady and Elder Rowley looked at me with determination in his eyes that he was going to share the video with her no matter what. But we were super far away from her and we tried to catch up to her and what happened next was a miracle. She stopped to tie her shoes! So we walked up to her and she was not in a good mood so we said that the video would make her day better. Every time a religious person tries to talk to her at the door she wants none of it so she said that it was a miracle that we met her on the street because she needed us to talk to her because she just got out of a fight with her spouse. She thanked us for meeting with her and she gave us her number and said they we could stop by anytime.
We asked if we could pray with
her before we left and she said sure and she offered the prayer and she thanked God for us happening to
meet with her and the message that we brought. At the end of the prayer she was crying pretty hard. She was definitely touched by the spirit. Later that night we had a little fireside campfire with some members
and a recent convert. It was really good and you could feel the spirit. Haha! "the spirit of God like a fire is burning"
On Saturday we decided to save more miles so we walked everywhere in east Missoula and we tracted from noon till 5. We had dinner at a members home and we had steak and potatoes, typical montana dinner. After dinner we went tracting even more and we didn't find anybody until about 7:30. When we knocked on the door the mom opened the door and she is not a member but she asked if we were hungry. We were not really hungry but that was a chance to get inside the home to share the gospel so we said yes. She let us inside and her whole family was home and they made a Vietnamese soup called, "pho gá" which means chicken. It was really good and authentic because the soup was made with ride noodles and we ate the whole thing with chopsticks! Really cool. We then taught them the restoration and they were really open and feeling the spirit. When we left they wanted to feed us even more sometime soon. That was pretty cool.

On Sunday night we had dinner with the T. Family agian. After dinner we had some arm wrestling competitions and me and Elder Rowley went against each other and he thought that he was going to win But when we started, the whole time we were totally even. we didn't even budge and it ended up in a tie. I'll have to get the picture from them because it is pretty funny.

This week was pretty good. I hope that yours was good as well.
